Pío del Río Hortega

Cell´s Hortega

Art about scientist Pío del Río Hortega (1882-1945), born on Valladolid. Using WWII propaganda aesthetic, this illustration explores this prominent scientist’s gaze. His studies about Histology made him one of the most noted figures on his knowledge field, which lead him to discover microglia, also called «Hortega cells». As many others during his time, he was exiled to Paris in 1939 and years later to Argentina. According to his ideas, he co-founded Friends of the Soviet Union Association, what allowed him to have a reciprocal knowledge about this period reality, beyond fake propaganda from the Right.
